Bird Opticians is committed to keeping our practice a safe place to protect staff and vulnerable patients from the risk of Covid-19.
The practice is a healthcare setting and face covering use is recommended by the NHS for the benefit of all patients, due to the prolonged close proximity that is required.
We therefore ask that after Monday 19th July customers continue to wear face masks and socially distance in our store, unless you are exempt from wearing a mask due to a medical condition.
For our longstanding customers I have the sad news of the passing of John Bird from cancer on the 28th July 2020. To those of you that knew him he was a larger than life character and will be sorely missed by us all.

With the current lockdown, we are very much aware that our patients rely on us for their ongoing eyecare, as always, we will be here to take care of you through this very difficult time.
The official guidance available at the moment states that as a key service, opticians will be able to continue to remain open for emergencies and essential eye care. If you have an eye problem or feel you cannot see well enough to perform your daily tasks, we can see you. If you have broken/lost your glasses, we can help.
Whatever happens, you will be able to contact the practice by phone (0114 2701423) or email (firstname.lastname@example.org). If you’d like products posted to you in order to avoid an unnecessary visit to Sheffield, we can. If you do wish to cancel or reschedule any existing appointment, then we fully understand and will be happy to arrange this.
These are worrying times for us all, but I speak for the whole Birds team when I say that we will be working hard through this period to ensure we provide the best care and service that’s possible within the rules that we must follow.

You are important to us, all our staff work hard to meet your individual needs and to us you are never just a number. We like to get to know you because, us having a better understanding of your personality, likes/dislikes, needs and wants enables us to meet your needs giving you a better service. We also offer a dry eye clinic as a service.
Our staff do not have “sales targets” because we feel this is not in your best interests. When you come into our practice we focus on helping you choose the right product, rather than simply making the sale. If a product isn’t right for you we will inform you and discuss alternatives between you and the team.
We believe you’ll feel safe in our hands. Bird Opticians has been established since 1983 and our qualified team of staff; have a vast array of experience. You really are in capable hands.We love to have a chat with everyone who visits our Sheffield shop, from the very first appointment through to the very last person out of the door.
At Bird Opticians, we care about the environment. Here are some of the ways we contribute:
- We use brown paper bags
- We have a refill service for the lens cleaner to reduce the use of plastic bottles.
- We recycle our paper and cardboard
- We have a range of frames called ECO that are made from recycled plastic. They also plant 1 tree for every frame sold
ECO® was “born recycled” in 2009, with the start of the program ONE FRAME – ONE TREE, in partnership with the NGO Trees for the Future. Since then, ECO® has donated and planted a tree for every frame sold. So far, ECO® has planted over 2 million trees!
